Premier League: Matchweek 36 Kit Review

Matchweek 36 has now been completed, and we are that stage of the season where most teams have just one more Home Game Each.. so a chance of new kits on show in the coming weeks (more on that below). The fixtures from this weekend are a mix of games from Matchweek 7 (7 games from there) and Matchweek 2 (3 games from there).. the fixture computer must of had a funny turn when coming this round of games!

As always you can find last week Matchweek’s review – here

The current Kit Overview for Premier League is below.

Matchweek 36

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 109 (+1 from Matchweek 35)
  • Goalkeeper Kits – 60 (+1 from Matchweek 35)

New Kits this Matchweek

There was one new kit on show this weekend, with Nottingham Forest using alternative socks with their 3rd Kit, we have seen these socks before but they were worn with alternative shorts as well, interesting against Brentford who wear the same colour combination as Sheffield United… so I guess they did not like the look of the shorts to use them again!

In the Midweek Game between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur (delayed from MW26), Tottenham used the Green Nike Goalkeeper Template for the first time this season.

Kit Highlights

This matchweek saw five teams in 3rd Kits, the joint most worn in one round of fixtures, however this was the first time this season where we saw three teams in 3rd Variations with Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Luton Town and Everton, a nice balance between the two kits and likely the last time we will see this wonderful Everton 3rd Kit in action!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 14 Home Kits, 1 Away Kit and 5 3rd Kit in action.

There were a total of 4 Kit variations used in this Matchweek

  • Fulham, in 3rd Kit with alternative pink shorts & socks, 2nd time this season
  • Nottingham Forest, 3rd Kit with alternative orange socks
  • Aston Villa, Home Kit with alternative claret shorts & socks, 4th time seen this season
  • Manchester United in 3rd Kit with white socks, the 7th time used

Kit Grid – Up to 7th May 2024

Kit News

The first offical Kit Launch for 2024/25 has happened and there is no surprise that it is Liverpool. Their much leaked home kit is now available for Pre-Order for 16th May, this suggests that we will see this kit in action (a regular occurance for Liverpool) with the likely game being the final game of the season against Wovlerhampton Wanderers. I will be interested to see the kit in action and initially quite like the yellow / white side flashes, which are also on the shorts’ side panels, an element of the kit that was not seen in the leaked images..!

Another club that may debut their 2024/25 Home Kit before the end of the season is Manchester City who are making plans to wear the new kit against West Ham United on the final game of the season, HOWEVER… it has been reported that they will ONLY wear their new kit if… the Premier League Title has been secured at that point either by themselves or another club, if the title race goes down to that final round of fixtuers then they will wear this season’s kit.

Matchweek 35

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 108 (+1 from last Matchweek)

New Kits this Matchweek

There was one new outfield kit this Matchweek, Luton Town wore their 3rd Kit with Away shorts, this is their 4th different 3rd Kit look and their 10th overall this season!

There was also a new Goalkeeper look seen this Matchweek, the first new Goalkeeper Kit since Matchweek 22, with Arsenal’s David Raya wearing green shorts with the green Adidas Goalkeeper Template, the default look for Arsenal this season of this colourway was with black shorts, so this is the first time we have seen all green this season, the 4th Goalkeeper Kit look of the season for The Gunners!

Kit Highlights

Arsenal wore alternative red socks with their Home Kit in the North London Derby, this was the first time they have worn this kit look since Matchweek 11.

Liverpool remain undefeated in their Away Kit in League this season, the only team to remain unbeaten in their Away Kit, having played 6 games, winning 3 and drawing 3.

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Newcastle United and Sheffield United, a nice balance between the two kits, Sheffield United’s Away kit is a nice clean change kit and has worked well on the road as look for The Blades.

There were a total of 3 Kit variations used in this Matchweek

There were two new kit look in these midweek fixtures…

Everton were in their Home Kit with alternative blue socks for the first time this season, a classic Everton look of Blue / White / Blue.

Luton Town used their 3rd Kit in it’s default look of all navy for the first time, their 2nd new look in 2 games!

Kit Highlights

Everton using a new kit variation for their home kit meant that is five different kit looks in the last five games.. and six in last seven!

Fulham have worn four kits in the last four games, with two different home and 3rd Kit looks!

Another team with four kits in four games is Luton Town with the use of the default All Navy 3rd Kit for the first time, this also means that Luton have used nine kits in total this season so far, the 2nd Highest in the Premier League!

Premier League Returns after The Internationl Break with Matchweek 30, there was 8 games on 30th March the joint most games in one single day so far this season. This round of fixtures being the reverse games of Matchweek 8 back in October.

As always you can find last week Matchweek’s review – here

Matchweek 30 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 103 (+3 from Matchweek 29)
  • Goalkeeper Kits – 58 (No change from Matchweek 29)

New Kits this Matchweek

Even as we reach Matchweek 30 we are seeing new Kit Looks used by teams, this week there were three new kit variations used…

West Ham United used alternative sky blue shorts with their Home for the first time this season to give us a classic Hammers look, these are also the same shorts that we have seen used with the Away Kit as an alternative this season, this is the 5th kit variation used this season by West Ham.

Fulham used their 3rd Kit with alternative pink shorts and socks to give us a nice looking kit against Sheffield United, the 5th kit look used by them this season.

Luton Town used their 8th Kit Variation of the season, another “mash up” on show, using the 3rd shirt with Home shorts and socks for a nice Navy / Navy / Orange look!

Kit Highlights

Although I do not include this as a variation of kit, as the actual kit remains the same Tottenham Hotspur used a charity sponsor in their game against Luton Town, the shirt sponsorship was in support for Philippines-based breast cancer charity “I Can Serve” and supported by regular sponsor AIA.

Everton made it four kits in four games when they used their 3rd Kit at AFC Bournemouth, it is also 5 Kits in 6 games which are all the of the Kit Variations The Toffees have used this season so far!

My favourite Kit Match Up of this weekend was the game between Newcastle United and West Ham United, the balance between the two kits works well, classic looking and timeless in their appearence, this really worked well for me!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 14 Home Kits, 3 Away Kits and 3 3rd Kits in action for these games.

There was there was four Kit Variations on show… three we were new kit looks above.

  • West Ham United, Home with alternative Sky Blue Shorts

  • Luton Town, 3rd with Home Shorts and socks

Kit News

The big Premier League Kit News during the International Break was that Castore have purchased the Umbro Brand in the UK, now what does that mean? This is the statement regarding the purchase…

We are thrilled to announce that today, we have completed a deal with Umbro licensee, GL Dameck to sign an exclusive Umbro Professional Team Sports sub-license. This sub-licence allows us to market the Umbro brand in the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, and Denmark.

Following a £145 million investment round in November 2023, we will continue to innovate in the elite sports market with this Umbro Pro Team licence marking its emergence as a multi-brand business.

As a brand with a rich history at the heart of sport and a deep and storied life in elite football, having created some of the most iconic strips of all time, Umbro has an exceptional legacy. Our digital expertise and highly agile global supply chain provides a model that has allowed us to disrupt the traditional dominance of Nike and adidas. The ability to now market and supply the Umbro brand for team sports will elevate both Umbro and Castore to new levels.

The agreement also signifies our first step towards a brand segmentation strategy, enabling us to take a significant position in the UK & European elite sports markets.

Since our inception, we have rapidly grown to partner with over 50 leading sports teams worldwide through its digital first business model. We will now apply this digital expertise to the marketing of Umbro’s exceptional brand heritage and authenticity and further expand the Umbro partnership portfolio, with fans remaining at the core of its strategy.

From the start of the 2024/25 season we will have the exclusive right to seek to work with Umbro’s existing English Premier League team partnerships, including: AFC Bournemouth, Brentford, Luton Town and West Ham, as well as English Football League Clubs Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Forest Green Rovers.

We will also supply, under the Umbro brand, to Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership, where Castore is already the global kit partner for Glasgow Rangers FC, and England Rugby men’s and women’s teams at a time of heightened interest in the sport during the Guinness Six Nations.

To me, this appears that the Umbro Brand will still exist but be produced by Castore, does that mean Castore will stop as a Kit Manufacturer, we will have to wait and see!

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below or at @Kit_Geek and the Premier League Kit Review will quite quickly with a midweek round of fixtures this Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday.

Matchweek 27 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 100 (No change from Matchweek 27)
  • Goalkeeper Kits – 58 (No change from Matchweek 27)

New Kits this Matchweek

There were no new kits on show this weekend, the first time since Matchweek 17, and only the second Matchweek of the season where we have not seen any new outfield, however this is the first time we have seen no new outfield or Goalkeeper kits in a single Matchweek.

Kit Highlights

Luton Town wore their default Away Kit look for just the 2nd time this season at Crystal Palace, they have worn the away shirt in various kit mash ups for 8 times in total but this look was used for the first time since it debuted against Manchester United in Matchweek 12.

Fulham wore their 3rd Kit at Wolverhampton Wanderers, this was their first outing in this kit since Matchweek 9, which was 19 games ago!

My favourite Kit Match Up of this weekend was the game between Arsenal and Brentford, with the visitors in the 3rd kit with alternative navy socks giving a nice overall balance to the Kits on show at The Emirates Stadium, this also means that both fixtures between these clubs have been my Kit Match Up of the week.

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 15 Home Kits, 3 Away Kits and 2 3rd Kits in action in this Matchweek.

There was there three Kit Variations on show this week.

Some European Kit New with Aston Villa, who had a slight change to their Kit Look in their Europa Conference Last 16 Game at Ajax on Thursday 7th March. Due to a change in Dutch Advertising regulatation last summer which impacted Betting Sponsorship, this meant a return to the front of the shirt for Acorns, a local children’s hospice charity that we have previously seen as headline shirt sponsor between 2008 and 2010.

Premier League: Matchweek 23 Kit Review

The fixtures from Matchweek 23 may ring some bells for some of you, as they are the repeat fixtures from Matchweek 18 which were the fixtures the weekend before Christmas, this also means that due to their meeting in the FA Cup 3rd Round it will be the third time that Liverpool and Arsenal have met in the last six weeks.

As always you can find last week Matchweek’s review – here

The current Kit Overview for Premier League is below, we now have all 60 shirts released… still waiting for confirmation of the shorts that will be used with Luton Town’s 3rd.

Matchweek 23 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 95 (+1 from Matchweek 22)
  • Goalkeeper Kits – 58 (No change from Matchweek 22)

New Kits this Matchweek

There was just the one new kit look on show through this weekend.

Luton Town’s “Eight Goal Thriller” at Newcastle United saw The Hatters in a new look for the season, combining Home shirts and socks with Away shorts, their 7th overall kit look of the season but the first time they have mashed up their home kit for different look!

Kit Highlights

There is only one place to start… Manchester United’s “Sock Watch”, their home game against West Ham United gave us the return of the default Home Socks for the 2023/24 Home Kit, the first time they have been worn at Home since the opening game of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers, so not seen since the second game of the season at Tottenham Hotspur, so have Adidas fixed the rumour issue with the socks that the players complained about, lets hope so as they do elevate the overall kit with their design!

Wolverhampton Wanderers were in their Away Kit for the second time in three games, and for only the third time this season in total.

My favourite Kit Match Up of this week’s games could only be the game between Manchester United and West Ham United, with Manchester United’s Home Kit looking how it should with the return of the socks, combined with a classic White Away Shirt of West Ham, doning alternative shorts for nice overall Kit Look!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 13 Home Kits, 3 Away Kits and 4 3rd Kits in action in this Matchweek

There were three Kit Variation on show this week.

  • Fulham in their Home Kit with white socks, the 4th time this look has been used in The League
  • Luton Town’s new Home Kit Mash up with Away shorts

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 77 (+2 from Matchweek 13)
  • Goalkeeper Kits – 54 (+1 from Matchweek 13)

New Kits this Matchweek

A couple more new kit looks on show this week,

Brighton & Hove Albion used their away kit with alternative white shorts, this was the first time this look has been used in a competitive game this season and becomes the 3rd different look used The Seagulls this season in the League.

Luton Town, now this is the kind of kit usage that got me interested in Football Kits all those years ago, The Hatters have given us an “Ultimate” Kit Mash, with elements of all three kits being on show in one game! This was the first time that we have seen the 3rd Shirt in the League this season, however it was paired with Away Shorts and Home Socks…. simply Wonderful!

This also becomes the 6th Kit Variation used by The Hatters this season, joint 2nd highest in Premier League.

There was one new Goalkeeper Kit on show, which was Crystal Palace who used their 3rd different Goalkeeper Kit with an Orange alternative kit.

Kit Highlights

“Sock Watch”, with Manchester United going for the Teamwear socks with the new Adidas logo this now seems to the sock of choice now, having been used 4 times in a row (with Home Kit).

Aston Villa using their away kit in an all white format means that they have used four different kit looks in their last four games.

Crystal Palace have now worn their Away Kit 3 times in the last four games

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Brentford and Luton Town, it was always going to be this game this week with that Luton Town Mash Up…

This gives me another excuse to share a picture of it!

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 14 Home Kits, 4 Away Kits and 2 3rd kits in action in this Matchweek.

There were six variations on show, three Home, two Away and one 3rd, this the most variations seen in one matchweek, the 2nd time this season we have seen this (first being MW6).

  • Aston Villa using white shorts with their Away Kit to give an all white look, the 2nd time this has been used this season.
  • Brighton & Hove Albion, used an alternative look for the first time in Premier League, using white shorts with their away kit
  • Everton in All Blue, the 2nd time this look has been seen in League.
  • Fulham using alternative white socks and again the 2nd time this look has been used this season
  • Luton Town with their wonderful mash up… 3rd Shirt / Away Shorts and Home Socks
  • Manchester United in Teamwear (new Adidas Logo) black socks with their Home Kit, the 4th time this has been used

Premier League: Matchweek 11 Kit Review

The clocks have changed, we are now into November and the Premier League Winter Ball is in action… but what happened on the Kit front in this week’s Premier League Fixtures….

As always you can find last week Matchweek’s review – here

The current Kit Overview for Premier League is below, we now have all 60 shirts released… still waiting for confirmation of the shorts that will be used with Luton Town’s 3rd.

Matchweek 11 Fixtures

Total Kits Used

  • Kits Worn in Total – 70 (+6 from Matchweek 11)
  • Goalkeeper Kits – 52 (+2 from Matchweek 11)

New Kits this Matchweek

After two weeks of four new kits on show we had one better with this weekend with six new outfield kits, meaning over half the games fielded a kit look we have not seen yet this season, plus a couple new Goalkeeper kits in their as well!

Manchester United, sporting their 5th different Home Kit look of the season (8th Overall) with one of their more traditional Home Kit Variations, using white shorts and socks against Fulham.

West Ham United used their 3rd Kit for the first time this season in the League, having previously used it in Europe.

Wolverhampton Wanderers used alternative shorts to create an all “Old Gold” look on the road, this was the first time we have seen this kit colour variation since 2018/19 Season against Southampton (13th April 2019).

Aston Villa were another team to use their 3rd Kit for the first time in the league having previously used it in Europe this season.

Liverpool used a change kit for the first time this season in their visit to Luton Town, using their away kit!

Chelsea used a variation of their Home Kit for the first time this season, pairing it up with alternative blue socks, to give an all blue look, something not seen since 2021/22 season, as navy socks (from the Away kit) were used as alternative last season

There were two new goalkeeper kits also used for the first time this weekend, both shades of purple…. Having used just one kit for the first nine games of the Season Everton made it three kits in three games for Jordan Pickford and Luton Town used a purple keeper kit, interestingly it was the keeper template from last season that they used not the current Umbro goalkeeper offering!

Kit Highlights

Nottingham Forest have now worn their default Home Kit (Red / White / Red) six times in total and are unbeaten this season in this look, winning three and drawing three of their games!

My favourite Kit Match Up of the weekend was the game between Luton Town and Liverpool, Liverpool in one their best away kit looks of recent years, matched up with Luton Town’s retro inspired home kit just worked for me and looked great in action.

Kit Stats

Overall we have seen 15 Home Kits, 3 Away Kits and 2 3rd kits in action in this Matchweek.

However there was four variations on show, all from home kits

  • Manchester United, Home with white shorts and socks
  • Arsenal used their Home kit with alternative red socks, this was the 3rd time this has been used this season
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers and their All Old Gold look
  • Chelsea in all blue using alternative blue socks with their home kit

Kit Grid – Up to 7th November

Kit News

Something we have been looking into is the Manchester United sock situation, well we may have some more insights on what is going… Kit Guru Phil Delves has got some inside information, which appears to be that the players are not happy with the default socks, complaining that they are too tight, this being the reason behind the use of Teamwear Socks.

There may be some interesting looking logos for some teams next season, it is rumour that Adidas will bring back the “Trefoil” Logo for their teams third kits next season likely to be Arsenal and Manchester United in the Premier League.

Nike also looking to do something different with their logo, having used the “Futura” logo a couple of seasons ago, this time it is rumoured that Nike shirts will have a double tick, and possibly have it on its side (potrait view rather than landscape if you will)… I guess we will find out next summer but interesting both stories being reported in the same week!

That wraps up Matchweek 11, plenty of new kits to look back on both outfield and goalkeepers.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below or at @Kit_Geek and Matchweek Kit Review will return next week.
